What is a Periodontist?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the planning, placement, and
maintenance of the dental implant, as well as the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontists
devote two to three years to full-time comprehensive training at an accredited university hospital program, following four
years of dental school and four years of college study. The advanced training a periodontist receives includes study of
growth and development, genetics, biochemistry, anatomy, surgical and non-surgical treatment of gum disease, and the
placement of dental implants.
